They could be used to accommodate a few days provided enough gasoline is available. Amp’d Up has been installing generators for many years now. We offer solutions for a variety of budgets to protect your home and office. Automatic standby generators are good for homes where either the resident is unable to start their own generator. Whether it be due to physical restraints, where the home is not occupied during power outages, and where a sufficient supply of natural gas or propane is available.Portable gasoline units are great for the occasional power outage that last only a few hours.Automatic standby units are better for protection, but they do come with a much larger up front cost.
Customers that already have a portable generator and are not utilizing the correct means to transfer power to their home are missing out on convenience and safety. A portable unit without a transfer switch means many extension cords to power all their needs. With the aid of a transfer switch only one cord from the generator to the inlet power location is needed. Portable generators are limited in the amount of power they can provide. Using a moderate size generator will allow the use of lighting, gas heating, operation of small kitchen appliances, but will not allow the use of an electric water heater, electric dryer, electric oven, or central air conditioning.
Automatic standby units require minimal interaction between the resident and the generator unit itself. Installation of this type of generator requires equipment that will disconnect the utility power and start the generator feeding the electrical needs without any user interaction. A yearly maintenance by a trained professional such as Amp’d Up Electrical will extend the life of the generator unit. Power from a natural gas system with an unlimited supply of gas will allow the powering of almost any device in the standard residence or business. By feeding the generator with propane one should consider the size of the propane storage to the needs of the generators load requirements (Amount of power needed from the generator to power all devices required.)
